As the school year draws to a close, our thoughts start to leap ahead to next year. I’d like to take this opportunity to remind our families that it is our policy at John Adams that students are placed in classes by the professional staff at school. We do not solicit nor accept parent requests for placement. When putting together classes we take into account a number of variables and we strive to balance classes by considering the following: the number of boys and girls, achievement levels, special needs, language proficiency levels, behavior issues, etc. As you can see, it’s a complicated process. At a small school like Adams we often have to make combination classes, and for those we look at achievement level, work habits, and behavior. We try to put average to above-average students of both grades in our combinations. It’s truly a compliment to your child to be considered for a “combo.” We also try our best to make sure that a student isn’t in a combination two years in a row, unless it’s a parent preference. If your child has a special need that the staff may not be aware of, please put that in writing and submit your letter to me. We will factor your concerns into our decision.
