I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of the new and returning students, parents, and staff to the 2014-2015 school year at John Adams Elementary. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer.
Our PTA is a 100% run volunteer organization here to support the faculty, staff, parents, and most especially our students at Adams. Over the years, the PTA has become one of the strongest voices in the educational process that directly supports our children and school. This year will be no different. Over the summer your PTA Executive Board has been busy developing the details for a very productive and exciting year aimed at enhancing the educational environment for all of our students. I invite each and every family to become involved on some level and take advantage of all that our great school has to offer.
With that said, please support us by:
1. Becoming a member of our PTA
2. Helping out in the classroom or at home
3. Supporting your room rep as they coordinate activities and events for your child’s class
4. Helping out at school events or with committees - some are during the day and some are during the evening
5. Volunteering to chair a committee – we still need a Newsletter, Honorary Service Award (celebrating deserving individuals who help support Adams), Technology Fundraiser, Earth Week, and Community Liaison chair - without a chair these events will be cancelled
6. Supporting our fundraising efforts so we can continue to offer our great field trips, educational assemblies, awesome art program, and more
You can keep up with school happenings by using the School Directory, visiting our website (www.adams.tusd.org), and through our newsletters and flyers that come home in the Thursday folders. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at email@example.com
I look forward to meeting, working with, and learning from all of you in the coming year. Together, we will accomplish so much!
LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR A STRONG FUTURE
Welcome to John Adams. We’re excited that you are now part of the Adams Family.
School starts on Friday, September 6th. Bell rings for classes to line up at 8:50. Our hours are:
TK/Preppy 8:50 – 1:50 (11:50 for the first two weeks and 1 day only)
Kindergarten: 8:50 – 1:50 (11:50 for the first day only)
Grades 1-3: 8:50 – 3:03
Grades 4-5 8:50 – 3:12
On September 6th our campus will open at 8:30 AM. Class lists will be posted in the area in front of the cafeteria. Please check the grade level boards for your child’s class assignment. You are welcome to walk your child to the classroom and introduce yourself to the teacher. We invite you to join us for a PTA welcome coffee and orientation in the cafeteria at 8:50. This will give you an opportunity to meet other parents and learn a little bit more about how you can become involved at school and support your child’s education.
We serve breakfast daily in the cafeteria from 8:15 – 8:45. You may pay for breakfast and/or lunch by cash or place money on your child’s account. You may place money on your child’s account by either dropping off an envelope in the box in the cafeteria or paying on-line at www.myschoolbucks.com. Information will be coming home with your child the first week of school to help you become more familiar with policies and procedures here at Adams. If you have any questions, please give us a call. We’re here to help you.
We know so much at school is new to you and we want to make the year go as smoothly as possible for you and everyone else on campus. There is often confusion over parking at drop-off and pick-up times. The area from the custodian’s lot to the staff lot is a “no parking” zone at both hours. We have valets in the morning that will be glad to assist you. The valet area is right in front of school. Our staff lot is staff parking only. Our teachers need those spaces so that they can get to their classrooms and duties on time. We’re sorry, but parking is limited and we can’t provide parking in that lot for parents.
If you pull up in the area in front of the school at pick-up time you must remain in your car. It is a “no-parking” area and unattended vehicles may be ticketed or towed.
Thank you for your help and understanding in these important matters. Our schools and parking areas were never designed to accommodate so much traffic as we must today. When our school was built and the surrounding community developed most kids walked or rode their bicycles to school. Times certainly have changed!
